AC Not Cold
When the air from your vents stays warm or barely cool, the AC is not pulling heat out of the cabin the way it should. In Colorado summers - and even on hot spring days - that is more than comfort. A weak AC can also make defrost slower when you need a clear windshield.
Symptoms
- Air never gets cold, or only gets cold at highway speed
- Musty smell when the AC first turns on
- Clicking or grinding when the AC kicks on
- Oily wet spots on AC lines or under the hood - often a refrigerant leak
- It was cold yesterday, warm today
Can I keep driving if my AC isn't cold?
- Usually yes. Warm AC alone does not make the car unsafe for a short trip.
- If you hear loud grinding when the AC is on, or the engine runs hot with the AC on, turn the AC off and call us.
- Do not keep buying recharge cans without finding the leak. You are losing refrigerant and hiding the real problem.
Common causes
- Refrigerant leak - at the condenser, a line, or a small o-ring seal
- Failed AC compressor or compressor clutch
- Condenser blocked or bent - road debris is common on Colorado roads
- Blend door or HVAC control fault - warm on one side, cold on the other
- Electrical fault - pressure switch, relay, or control module
What happens next
- Call or text. Tell us when it stopped cooling and whether you hear the compressor click on.
- We pressure-test and look for leaks before we talk about parts - no blind recharge.
- We find the real problem first. You get a clear estimate before we do any repairs.
