Battery Keeps Dying
A battery that keeps dying is either not holding a charge, not getting recharged while you drive, or draining while parked. Cold Colorado mornings expose weak batteries fast - but swapping another battery at the parts store without testing usually does not fix the root cause.
Symptoms
- Slow crank in the morning, fine after a jump
- Battery light on while driving
- Corrosion on terminals or a swollen battery case
- New battery died within weeks
- Dead after sitting two or three days - a parasitic drain
Can I keep driving with a weak battery?
- If it starts, you can usually drive to the shop. The alternator may keep the engine running even when the battery is weak.
- If the battery light stays on while driving, the charging system may not be keeping up - keep driving short and get it tested.
- Do not rely on jump-starts long-term. Repeated deep discharges ruin batteries.
Common causes
- Battery at end of life - typical 3-5 years in this climate
- Alternator not charging or weak diode pattern
- Parasitic draw - a module, light, or accessory staying on when the car is off
- Loose or corroded battery cables
- Short trips that never fully recharge the battery
What happens next
- Call or book. Tell us how long the car sits before it dies and whether the battery light comes on while driving.
- We load-test the battery, check the charging system, and run a parasitic draw test when that fits.
- We walk you through whether it is the battery, alternator, a drain, or a bad connection - before you buy parts.
